5 Essential Tips to Create your Speaker Introduction

A mistake some speakers makes is letting someone else create their introduction. The introduction sets the stage and tone for your speech.  By putting their introduction in another’s hands they lose control of an important moment when they are transforming form a person in the crowd to an expert on the stage.  They miss an opportunity to make an engaging first impression.

  1. Use a large font so the person introducing you can easily read what you have written.
  2. Be sure to write for the ear and not the eyes.  Read your introduction aloud to yourself before finalizing it. Does it have the flow of a comfortable conversation?
  3. Keep the language you oriented.  Such as, “You will discover 5 keys to writing an exceptional speech”. Make everything about them.
  4.    Let them know what they will gain by listening to you. “Today you will gain strategies to connect closely with your audience.”
  5. Open with a problem or need.  “Our speaker today is here to share techniques to keep distracted audiences engaged in a virtual environment.”
